The volunteers at Anstruther RNLI were paged to launch shortly before 10pm last night (8 Oct) to assist a 56ft fishing vessel entangled in lines 6 miles East of Fife Ness.
The all-weather lifeboat proceeded in darkness through the forces of Storm Callum, and arrived with the vessel shortly after 11 pm.

The lifeboat crew set up a tow, and the boats made the slow and challenging sail back to the shelter of Anstruther Harbour.

Both boats arrived back in Anstruther shortly after 4 am. The fishing vessel was tied up by the Anstruther lifeboat shore team, who then recovered the lifeboat back into the station ready for the next call.

The Anstruther RNLI volunteers headed home for some sleep at 5.30 am, before they continue with their Tuesdays.

ILB
Coastguard requested launch of ALB to locate and assist MV with propeller fouled approx. 100m off shore from Caiplie Farm House and two miles from station with one person on board.

Because of ebbing tide and the size of vessel (20ft) the LOM & Coxswain agreed the ILB could cope with towing the casualty, confirmation also received from the CG.

Weather conditions were fine, ILB located the casualty established a tow and safely towed the vessel to Anstruther harbour. ILB re-housed as no further assistance required.

Weather          Part Cloudy
Visibility           Good
Wind Force     3 Gentle breeze
Wind direction W
