RNLI's latest class of lifeboat, "Shannon" conducted trials at Anstruther today. The trials tested all aspects of the boat's operation: accommodation in the lifeboat shed, high water launching from the slipway, low water launching and recovery of the boat to its launching rig.
Anstruther Lifeboat Station remained fully operational throughout the trials, with the relief lifeboat Lifetime Care kept afloat and ready to respond 24/7 if required.
The trials were deemed a huge success and it’s now over to the RNLI project team to plan the next stage of this exciting development.
When all Mersey lifeboats have been replaced by Shannons, the entire RNLI fleet will be capable of speeds of up to 25 knots.
