No 17/2019
1 July 22:25 - 23:37

ILB

Our volunteer crew were paged at 22:25 tonight following reports of a kayaker in difficultly off the coast of Ardross. Our D class lifeboat conducted a thorough search along the coast between St Monans and Elie while Coastguard ground teams conducted similar shore-based searches. With nothing found, our lifeboat returned to station and was made ready for service shortly after midnight. This was a false alarm with good intent.

If you, like the person calling in this evening, see someone in difficulty, dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.
Our volunteers ended their Monday and began their Tuesday with the piece of mind that nobody was in difficulty.

The helicopter arrived soon after and the casualty was transferred to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for further care.
Commenting on the rescue, station Coxswain Michael Bruce said: 'With reports of the casualty having potentially had a stroke, it was key that we made our way to the scene as quickly and as safely as possible. With the helicopter based some 90 miles away in Prestwick, it was key to have our all-weather lifeboat on the island as a secondary evacuation option. Gladly, the helicopter was available and was able to assist the gentlemen with transfer to hospital for further care.'
