Assistance to Disabled Yacht

Both lifeboats requested by Aberdeen Coastguard to assist a 27ft yacht with a broken tiller that was dragging its moorings towards rocks at the entrance to Elie harbour with two persons on board.
The casualty was in 5 m of water insufficient for the ALB to operate efficiently.
The ILB executed an alongside tow with the casualty, into safe waters, where the ALB took up an astern tow to Pittenweem harbour.
The ILB set up a brake whilst entering Pittenweem harbour, where the casualty was safely moored alongside.
Both Lifeboats returned to Anstruther to rehouse, as not further assistance required.

Assistance To Powerless Yacht

ILB requested by Aberdeen Coastguard to assist a yacht that had developed engine problems as it left Anstruther harbour with one person on-board, the Harbour Master and a crew man had previously secured it within the outer harbour.
ILB checked the vessel and then towed the casualty to a safe berth on the pontoon.
 
Lifeboat rehoused as not further assistance required.

Recovery Of Object Near The Isle Of May

ALB tasked by Aberdeen Coastguard to locate an object in the water off the Isle of May.
ALB launched recovered and returned the object to the Police waiting at Anstruther harbour.
Because of tidal restrictions the ALB was berthed at Pittenweem until the re-house at 17:30.

Yacht Salvaged From Rocks

ALB & ILB​

Both boats tasked by Aberdeen Coastguard to assist two persons on a yacht stranded on rocks off Cellardyke harbour. 
The ILB was first on scene, to assist the crew, who had made it to the rocks and reported themselves OK. 
Crew managed to attach a rope to the casualty vessel and tow it out from between the rocks. 
With ALB standing by in case of need, the vessel was towed into Cellardyke harbour and made safe.
​The crew of two were safe and grateful. They reported that their engine had failed just as they left the harbour.

5 Climber Rescued From Cliff

Tasked by Aberdeen Coastguard to assist five persons on the coastal chain walk near Elie. The ILB arrived on scene first. 
Two police officers were assisting three casualties with two casualties remaining lower down the cliff.
Coast guard shore team assessed the situation and requested a helicopter to assist.
Both lifeboat stood by while helicopter lifted the casualties to safety at the top of the cliff, in case of any shore based rescue requirements.

Lifeboats were released when all the casualties were safe.  
Both boats returned to Anstruther Harbour, were they were re-housed.

Search For Inflatable Dinghy

Tasked by Aberdeen Coastguard to locate two persons in an inflatable dinghy thought to be in trouble.
Both Lifeboats launched, ILB on scene first and started searching from Shell Bay, before liaising with St Andrews coastguard who directed the search to the west. 
Casualties were located 1 mile SE of Lower Largo where the casualties and equipment were transferred to ALB.

ALB steamed to Lower Largo but because of tidal restriction the casualties were transferred back to ILB to enter harbour. 
Casualties put ashore safely to waiting Coastguard.
Both boats returned to Anstruther Harbour, where they were re-housed

Assistance To Vessel With Engine Problems

Tasked by Aberdeen Coastguard to locate and aid a pleasure vessel with engine problems off Pittenweem Harbour.
While on route the engine was restarted.
The casualty vessel with one person aboard was escorted safely back to Anstruther Harbour, were the ILB re-housed.

7 People Removed From Cliffs

Both Lifeboats tasked by Aberdeen Coastguard to locate and aid 7 persons reported stuck in caves at Kincraig point between Elie & Shell Bay.
Once on scene the ILB located casualties and ascertained that they were in fact on the chain walk around the cliffs and were cut off by the tide but were not in any danger.
Contact was made and it was decided to take casualties off the chain-walk and back to Shell Bay. ALB stood by.
Both boats then returned to Anstruther harbour to re-house.

Historic Boat Endangered

Crew still at the station having just returned from a service call (No 14), when the Scottish Fisheries Museum historic fishing vessel ‘White Wing’ was being launched on the slip.
Casual assistance turned into rescue as the vessel started taking on a large quantity of water, crew arranged salvage pumps to reduce the influx, while the ILB was launched and towed the casualty to the beach within the harbour were it could be safely berthed.

RNLI crews returned in two shifts from 22:30 to 03:00 and 03:00 to 05:00 to assist in pumping out during high tide until a crane could be arranged.

Assistance to Yacht

Request from Aberdeen Coastguard to assist two persons, on a yacht in difficulties off Anstruther harbour, with possible mechanical failure.
The ILB located the casualty and towed it safely into the harbour where it was berthed with the assistance of the RNLI crew.
